The current ecological state of the Pacific Ocean is very dangerous and unsustainable, and scientific models have suggested that Pacific Ocean ecosystems will move hundreds of miles by 2100 due to climate change caused by humans (Stanford News).
The ecological state of the Pacific Ocean is very important because the Pacific Ocean is home to food we eat, it plays a critical role to our climates stability, it provides jobs and prosperity, and it provides great amounts of joy and inspiration for many people (Conservation International - Pacific Oceanscape). The Pacific Ocean’s protection and the protection of the many things living in the Pacific Ocean is being provided by many different groups of people, including activist groups and other groups, but they simply cannot ensure the Pacific Ocean’s protection, or the protection of the many things living in the Pacific Ocean, on their own. Things such as climate change, habitat destruction, ocean acidification, oil spills, overfishing, pollution, and trash, or waste, are damaging the Pacific Ocean and making it not nearly as healthy as it could be if we made a better effort towards becoming more environmentally conscious.
Oil spills are occurring constantly all over the globe, due to the damaging and irresponsible oil and gas industry, whose actions can be considered as crimes against both humanity and nature. Oil spills are allowing crude oil to flow in waters that were once clean, gallons of oil, barrels of oil, are contaminating the water, damaging the environment, and harming the wildlife of the Pacific Ocean.

A large collection of plastic waste can be found in the middle of the North Pacific Ocean and its size is estimated to as large as one or two times the size of the state of Texas. An estimated 10 percent of the world’s plastic waste makes its way into one of five gyres in the world’s oceans, where currents cause the waste to float into one large area (Ecology Global Network). As a result of the large amount of plastic found in the Pacific Ocean, fish have ingested an estimated 12,000 to 24,000 tons of plastic per year, according to research from the University of California San Diego Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SFGate).

Humans are the main cause of the Pacific Ocean’s poor ecological state, if humans became more environmentally conscious and found alternatives to oil and gas, then the Pacific Ocean and even beyond could start to heal and become more healthy. If the future of the Pacific Ocean relies on what we do today, than more than just the Pacific Ocean is in danger.
